WebDuring the Ceremony of the Keys, armed guards provide an escort for the Chief Yeoman Warder. Performed at exactly 21:52 every night for hundreds of years, this ancient ceremony locks the outer gates of the fortress for the night. The keys are delivered to the monarch's representative in the Tower, the Resident Governor. Information for visitors The 1st Battalion deployed for the first time to the Persian Gulf when it arrived in Sharjah, now part of the United Arab Emirates and left in late 1970. Also that year the 2nd Battalion returned home from Germany and deployed on a short tour of Northern Ireland which would be one of many for the regiment, and especially so during the 1970s.
