That was in a fortress with about 200 animals (not counting dogs/cats). Really all the animals would survive, except for the panda's and having more than 1 bull of those 2 types. I didn't think much of it until DFHack warned me that another yak is starving. The pasture is still filled with grass. There are spots of dirt, but the majority is still grass. The other animals aren't starving.
